TRIP
DESCRIPTION: Load up the bikes and
supplies and head up to Vail Pass. After we unload, we will begin our 25-mile
ride that follows the Tenmile-Vail Pass Trail. Be
prepared for a steep descent with switchbacks for the first 6 miles into Copper
Mountain. Feel free to stop and take pictures as we ride past beaver ponds, go
over wooden bridges and cruise along awe-inspiring mountain peaks. We will take
one or two rest breaks during our trip in which we will have water, fruit and
snacks available for you to munch on. The trip will conclude in the ski town of
Breckenridge. This is a great paved ride for all skill levels, from beginner on
up. Don’t miss out on this great
opportunity to see these beautiful mountain towns from a whole new perspective!
After a day of fun we will return you back to ODR around dinnertime.
WHAT TO
BRING: Bike (must be in good
working order), helmet (mandatory), water, sunscreen, camera, and sunglasses.
Bikes are available to rent from the Outdoor Recreation Center for $20.
WHAT TO
WEAR: Apparel appropriate for the
sport and dress in layers. Bike gloves and padded shorts can make your ride
much more comfortable. Avoid cotton clothing.
Most of all, Dress For The Weather!
POSSIBLE
HAZARDS: This ride takes place on a
paved two-lane bike path so oncoming and passing bikes are something to watch
out for. To stay alert and be able hear oncoming bikes we ask that you leave
your headsets and radios at home. Bridge crossings, sharp switchbacks, steep
descents, and holes are possible. Use caution, stay on the path and following
the guide will reduce the possibility for injury. Stay with your guide and stay
in control. Be sure to arrive on time for a pre-trip bike inspection.
